Learn about Lassen Peak, Plumas history all month

Thursday, May 7, 2015 — Throughout the month of May, Lassen County residents can brush up on the history of neighboring towns and counties.

The Lassen-Feather River Canyon Coalition, in an attempt to generate interest in the rural, historic small communities, devised a month-long event to share what each community has to offer with the Lassen-Feather River History Month.

In a presentation to the Lassen Getaway Coalition on Wednesday, April 29, Chester business owner Susan Bryner shared what the Lassen-Feather River Canyon Coalition was working on in an attempt to generate tourism back to the area, which she noted was the second fastest-growing industry.

Coalition discusses upcoming events

Thursday, May 7, 2015 — The Lassen Gateway Coalition met to discuss upcoming events and to share new developments.

On Wednesday, April 29, the coalition, gathered to share about some of the events taking place in the region that will help promote its natural resources and events.

According to the mission statement, “The Lassen Gateway Coalition is a collaborative partnership that promotes the sharing of information about the Sierra Cascade region, encourages visitation an enjoyment of the area, and increases the health and vitality of its communities and people.”

Office of Education receives computer donations

Wednesday, May 6, 2015 — The California Correctional Health Care Services from both High Desert State Prison and California Correctional Center donated 75 gently used computers to be deployed within the schools in Lassen County. The computers donated were HP systems complete with monitors, keyboards and mice. The donation was possible due to California Correctional Health Care Services’s completion of scheduled upgrades of computer equipment to meet on-going program advancements and acquisition of an electronic medical record system.

California Correctional Health Care Services CEO Tom Mahoney said, “California law allows the transfer of state property to education.

Giampaoli's art on display


Michael Giampaoli's oil painting “Snag, Glacier National Park,” will be one of his new pieces on display at Artisan Coffee during the month of May.

Wednesday, May 6, 2015 - Artisan Coffee's May show will feature more than 20 new paintings from local artist Michael Giampaoli.
An opening reception is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 8.
According to Giampoli, the new paintings are all pieces done last year, mostly landscapes and other odds and ends.
Some are from a six-week trip he and his wife took to Michigan last summer. The route took them through the northern part of the United States and Giampaoli painted a few pieces from Glacier National Park in Montana.
