Water main breaks, no damages reported

Friday, July 17, 2015 — A water main burst in the alleyway between Elm and Fir and Fourth and Fifth streets in Westwood on Saturday, July 4. Randy Buchanan, general manager for the Westwood Community Services District, said he got the call about 3:45 p.m. and when he arrived at the site he found a river gushing down the alley created by a split in the pipe about 8 feet long.
The incident left about 48 residents without water for three hours.
Buchanan, who was on call, made the repairs alone since all other employees were celebrating the July Fourth holiday.
