Supes hire chief probation officer

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 — Already familiar with the job, the newly hired chief probation officer is ready to continue moving the department in the direction it should be going.

The Lassen County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved hiring Jennnifer Branning during a special Wednesday, Nov. 12 meeting.

She has been serving as acting chief probation officer for 18 months and was reappointed to the position before a committee conducted interviews Oct. 31.

Burning on Eagle Lake Ranger District

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 — TheEagle Lake Ranger Districtof the Lassen National Forest is once againplanning an underburnin theButte Creek and Bidwell Springs area, on Nov. 18. Smoke production should last one to five days and about 10 acres are planned for burning.

The underburn is located in a remote area and should not impact any communities or smoke sensitive areas. Smoke might be visible from Highway 44.

More prescribed burning on Hat Creek Ranger District

Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 — The Hat Creek Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest is planning prescribed pile burning of the Legume Machine Piles, and is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17 and continue through the week, dependent on incoming moisture.

The burn should cover approximately 50 acres of the 340-acre unit.The piles are grapple piles from the leap and legume timber sales.

Ignition will take place for one day, with smoke being produced for 3 to 5 additional days after.

Shooting injures Susanville woman

Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 — A Susanville woman was transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada after she was shot in the leg Saturday, Nov. 8 during a confrontation at a local apartment complex.

According to a Wednesday, Nov. 12 press release from the Susanville Police Department, officers found Sarah Pinkerton, 27, in an upstairs bedroom in a Hall Street apartment after she had been “shot once in the calf area of her right leg with an unknown caliber firearm after a confrontation with a group of subjects in the apartment,” about 5 p.m. Nov. 8. “The other subjects involved in the confrontation had already left the area prior to the arrival of the officers.”

Prescribed burning on Hat Creek Ranger District

Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 — The Hat Creek Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest is planning a prescribed underburn, weather conditions permitting, Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Atotal of 150 acres is planned for burning. Ignition should take one day. Estimated burn and smoldering time is 3 to 5 days.

There should not be any impacts from smoke. Smoke may be visible from Highway 44 in the Butte Creek area.
