Commission discusses unmet transit needs in county

Tuesday, May 19, 2015 — Lassen County Transportation staff presented the Lassen County Transportation Commission the results from the unmet transit needs as unreasonable to meet, at the Monday, May 12 meeting.
In February and March, public hearings were held to discuss any potential unmet needs in local transit.
Melody Brawley, Health and Social Services director, noted how it was hard for buses to make it up to the behavioral health clinic on Hospital Lane since the old buses had difficulty turning around and going up the hill when it’s icy.
According to Kelly Mumper, transportation planner, the public hearing was required under the Transportation Development Act, which provides funding for county streets and roads in counties with fewer than 500,000 people.

Battle for victims’ rights lands in Susanville

Tuesday, May 19, 2015 — The Archangels of Justice — veteran former police officers Salvatore E. Rastrelli and Ira B. Robins — have launched a national campaign to establish a protocol for police investigations of crime scenes and holding police officers who do not do their duty accountable.
Last week Susanville became the latest battleground in the archangels’ effort as they brought attention to the local police department’s investigation into the 2011 death of Susanville resident Angel Siler, 23.
Rastrelli said the archangels have filed four civil rights affidavits with the department of justice from cases they’ve investigated across the country so far, and seven more are in the works. Eventually they plan to take their campaign to Washington, D.C. in order to get a federal department of justice protocol in place and then hold officers who do not honor their oath to serve and protect by not conducting a proper crime scene investigation accountable.
