In consequence of many sheep being driven into this section for summer range, the grocers are doing an extra business in their line. We notice an almost continual string of wagons and pack animals going out into the mountains loaded with flour, bacon and other camp necessities.
A barn belonging to E. Laner at Adin was burned some two weeks ago. A cow and a fine merino buck valued at $300 were also burned. The loss was about $1,800. It is thought to be the work of an incendiary and a man has been arrested on suspicion.

From the Advocate: After numerous complaints about the smell of outdoor toilets and cesspools and reports of people dumping bath water, Donald P. Cady, attorney for the Susanville Sanitary District, issued a statement urging residents to conform to the district’s ordinance pertaining to plumbing and sewage connections.
The ordinance requires every home and business within the sewer district to have a complete plumbing system and hookup to sewers.

Eagle Lake, Messrs. Dow, Spalding and Harrison of Johnstonville have been navigating the waters of Eagle Lake somewhat this week. They boated a lot of lumber from its east to its west shore, but the winds drove them on two successive days upon Pelican Island where they were obliged each time to lay to until evening when the breezes abated.
Their presence upon this island caused the death of many hundreds of young pelicans, which being just hatched and died for want of a mother’s care.
These young bipeds can, however, be well spared for they are a terribly destructive animal to the fish of these waters.
