The community celebrated Teacher Institute Week, a countywide acknowledgement of the efforts of schoolteachers. Also, a few new teachers were welcomed to select schools in the area. According to the newspaper, these additions give a greater sense of credibility to local education efforts.

The board of supervisors appointed three horticulture commissioners. Their duties were to investigate the county’s orchard conditions and determine methods of protecting them from disease and insects.

 

Remember When for Sept. 25, 2012

115 years ago

Voting officials were reportedly masterminding a crooked effort to defeat the Republican party in Northern California. Those in charge of counting ballots wore rings with tiny stamps. As they unfolded the Republican ballots, they quickly pressed the stamp on the face of the ballots, thus eliminating it from being counted.

 

Remember When for Sept. 18, 2012

115 years ago

The Eagle Lake Land and Irrigation Company purchased the right to the Susan River irrigation system, which comprised Leavitt Lake and the reservoirs known as McCoy and Hog Flats. With these sources backed up by Eagle Lake’s 28,000 acres of surface area, the Honey Lake Valley was one of the most well irrigated sections of California.
