Waste tire collection event
Oct. 12, 2013 — The Lassen Regional Solid Waste Management Authority is pleased to announce a waste tire collection event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until the trailers are full) Saturday, Oct. 19 at Herlong Transfer Station. Lassen County residents will be allowed to bring up to nine passenger car and light truck tires per vehicle to the collection event and dispose of them at no charge. It is illegal in the state of California to haul more than nine waste tires without a state issued tire-hauling permit. These waste tire collection events are funded by a grant from the California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).
“This is the first waste tire event to be held in Lassen County since late spring of 2012” said Paula Wesch, program coordinator for the Solid Waste Authority. “There will be two more events in late spring of 2014 at the Bieber Transfer Station and again at Bass Hill Landfill. Three more events are planned for the fall of 2014 and the spring of 2015.”
Wesch also wants to remind Lassen County residents they are entitled to one free trash disposal per year at area landfills and transfer stations. The free disposal includes up to five cubic yards of household waste and four car or light truck tires. Scrap metal, used oil and oil filters, cardboard, household batteries, televisions and electronic wastes are also allowed for disposal at no charge at Bass Hill Landfill, Bieber, Herlong and Westwood transfer stations.
For more information about the waste tire collection events, call the Lassen Regional Solid Waste Management Authority at 252-1273.
