Friends of NRA hosting fifth annual banquet
Aug. 23 — The Friends of NRA Lassen County chapter will be hosting a fundraiser banquet at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Susanville on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance; none will be sold at the door. The event will be catered by Southern Accents, of Quincy, and the dinner will include beef, chicken, mashed potatoes, grilled squash, salad, bread and dessert.
Friends of the NRA is a nonprofit, non-political side of the NRA foundation.
“We raise money for the shooting sports. One hundred percent goes to shooting sports, no administrative costs,” said Alan Schumacher, a volunteer with Friends of the NRA.
According to Della Smith, secretary of the local chapter, the funds raised by Friends of the NRA mainly go to support youth programs, such as the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program, the Women on Target program, Boy Scouts, 4-H and various other local gun safety, education and shooting programs.
Half of the money raised at this year’s banquet will stay local.
In 2010, the program received a $35,000 grant, which was used to improve a shooting range in Lassen County.
This is the fifth year Friends of the NRA has hosted the fundraising banquet. In addition to the dinner, numerous items will be available for live and silent auction and prizes will be raffled off. At least 40 guns will be given away as raffle prizes and, according to Smith, attendance is usually around 100 people, so there are “pretty good odds of going home with a gun.”
For more information or to purchase a ticket, call Smith at 254-6595. Tickets for the event, as well a pre-event gun drawing, can also be purchased at Sierra Jewelry Co. or Honey Lake Firearms in Susanville.
