Aug. 15 – The 14th annual Mountain Bash youth sports fundraiser softball tournament took place at Riverside Park in Susanville on Saturday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 2.
The tournament is put on by locals and includes many of the teams and players from the Susanville Slowpitch Softball league. All the funds raised from entry fees and sponsorships go to local, youth sports programs and organizations in Lassen County. According to this year’s tournament organizer, Ryan Chedwick, funds have previously gone to support Lassen High School baseball, Susanville Little League and other youth sports.
Although the tournament is organized and played locally, teams have participated from throughout Northeastern California and Nevada. This year, several teams from Nevada participated. In the past, teams have come from Chester, Redding, Reno and Gardnerville.
This year’s tournament had 10 men’s teams and eight co-ed teams.
Turbulence, a team from Gardnerville, Nev., took first place in the men’s division. Those Guys, a team made of players from Susanville and Reno, got second place.
In the co-ed division, the Frickin’ Foxes, from Gardnerville, won first place and Off Constantly, from Susanville, took second.
According to Chedwick, this year’s tournament raised between $2,000 and $3,000 for local youth sports.
The tournament takes place every year on the first weekend in August. Chedwick said they like to hold the tournament right after the Susanville Slowpitch Softball season ends so people are still fresh and ready to play.
