Sober Graduation seeks community donations
March 21, 2013 — Lassen County Sober Graduation requests the community help keep the tradition alive and thriving for the 2013 graduating class. Approximately 320 seniors will be graduating and they are asking for donations of merchandise, gift certificates and/or cash. A gift of any size makes a big difference.
The goal of Lassen County Sober Graduation is to continue the success: no accidents, tickets, citations and, most importantly, no deaths on graduation night.
Last year’s graduation celebration was very successful, with over 250 seniors attending from all five high schools in Lassen County. The success of sober graduation hinges upon having tangible rewards available to the students in exchange for their commitment to the event.
In addition to the activities, inflatables, games, bowling, dancing, movies and breakfast, the prizes, which were so generously made last year, served as a major attraction.
In a letter from the Lassen County Office of Education, Richard DuVarney, superintendent, wrote, “Though we know the current state of the economy has not helped our local businesses and organizations, we hope that you will again be able to help us meet this need.”
