Jan. 14, 2013 — Come enjoy hand-selected premium wines and mouth-watering beef hors d’oeuvres at A Taste of Beef, A Sip of Wine presented by the Lassen County CattleWomen and Cattlemen.
The event is scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the Susanville Elks Lodge. This year marks the 25th anniversary of A Taste of Beef, A Sip of Wine.
Representatives from Susanville Supermarket IGA, Susanville Grocery Outlet and Safeway will be pouring some of the stores’ best selections and the Cattlemen will be serving wine brought in from Napa Valley.
Lassen Ale Works at the Pioneer Saloon will be offering its locally brewed beer.
In addition to fine wine, event-goers will find a wide array of delicious beef appetizers prepared by the CattleWomen.
To keep the hors d’oeuvres fresh and exciting, the CattleWomen host a Cow-A-Bunga contest in November. According to Leona Parker, chairman of the event, Cow-A-Bunga is a friendly competition where CattleWomen compete to create a new beef hors d’oeuvre to be served at the event.
Beef must be the main ingredient and the member is required to make at least 100 for the actual event.
This year’s winners are:
First place — Melissa Blosser, beef figbites.
Second place — Teri Bertotti, beef caramelized sticks.
Third place — Leona Parker — meat and taters.
Marinated steak preserves, raspberry chip beef bites, hamburger artichoke rollups, beef stuffed mushrooms and many more will also be featured at the event.
Recipes are included in a free cookbook that will be available to guests.
Those who attend A Taste of Beef, A Sip of Wine will also have the opportunity to bid on items in the silent auction.
Proceeds support local youth activities, scholarships and agriculture in the classroom. Due to the success of last year’s event the CattleWomen were able to give $3,700 to Lassen County students.
Pre-sale tickets are $28 and $30 at the door. You can purchase tickets at The Pardner at 702-100 Johnstonville Road, the Chamber office at 75 N. Weatherlow St,, through any CattleWoman or Cattleman, or call Parker at 249-3928.
