Vehicle collides with semi, three sent to Renown
Dec. 7, 1012 — Three Lassen County residents were sent to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nev. after colliding with a semi-truck on Highway 395, Thursday, Dec. 6.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Kodi B. Baublit, 19, of Susanville, and Devan M. Bishop, 19, of Janesville, sustained major injuries. Nicholas B. Cline, 19, of Susanville received minor injuries.
The CHP said the accident occurred at approximately 6:24 p.m. when Baublit and her passengers were traveling southbound on the highway south of the Milford Grade, in her 2002 Honda Accord. They were on their way to Wemple Ranch.
Baublit missed the turnoff and was going to make a U-turn and go back northbound, according to the CHP.
Gurpal Singh was driving southbound in his truck at 55 miles per hour and coming up behind Baublit’s vehicle.
At that time, Baublit pulled to the right shoulder and proceeded to make a U-turn and did so directly into the path of Singh.
When he saw Baublit start her U-turn, CHP said Singh applied his brakes and steered to his left in an attempt to avoid her vehicle.
However, as Baublit entered the northbound lane midway through her turn, her vehicle was broadsided by Singh’s vehicle. After the collision, Singh’s vehicle pushed Baublit onto the east shoulder and both vehicles came to the rest on the shoulder facing south.
