Officers conduct sex registrant sweep

Nov. 14, 2012 — Officers from local law enforcement agencies conducted a sex registrant sweep in the Janesville, Johnstonville, Lake Forest, Litchfield, Standish, Westwood and Wendel areas Tuesday, Nov. 13.

According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), personnel attempted to contact 36 registrants and made actual contact with 31 of them.

No arrests were made. Twenty-nine people were found to be in compliance with their requirements and two cases were referred for additional investigation.

The Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (S.A.F.E.) Grant funds the sweep, as well as felony investigations of sex crimes.

The LCSO reminds the public they can check the area they live in for sex registrants through the Offender Watch website at watchsystems.com. The system allows people to receive an email whenever a new sex offender moves into their area.

For more information about the system, call LCSO Community Services Officer Sherri Tripp or Detective John McGarva at 251-8013.

The Susanville Police Department and the Lassen County Probation Department helped with the sweep, and the LCSO expresses its appreciation to those departments for the assistance.
