Oct. 29, 2012 — We may live in small towns, but when it comes to celebrating, we go big. Halloween is no exception. From Chester to Doyle, residents have opportunities to trick-or-treat and get spooked as much as they like.

Here's a rundown of activities for both young and old Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Historic Uptown Susanville Association's (HUSA) Safe & Sane Halloween event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Merchants along Main Street in Susanville (from Weatherlow to Roop streets) will hand out candy. The winners of the HUSA/Lassen County Arts Council Halloween Art Contest will be announced during the event. For more information, call the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce at 257-4323.

Banner Lassen Medical Center's (BLMC) Trick-or-Treat event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. All of the hospital department offices will be decorated and employees will be dressed up to hand out goodies. Apple cider and hot cocoa will be served. BLMC is located at 1800 Spring Ridge Drive in Susanville. For more information, call 252-2000.

In Chester, the annual Merchant's Safe Trick or Treat will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be costume contests, storefront fall decoration contests and prizes. Chester businesses and merchants will open their doors and bowls of treats to trick-or-treaters young and old. For more information, call the Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce at 258-2426.

Bikers Against Child Abuse will host a haunted house from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at 83 S. Weatherlow St. in Susanville. There will be a spook-tacular tour, treats and a chance to meet Mr. Snuggles.

From 4 to 6 p.m. Eagle Lake Village Senior Living invites trick-or-treaters to stop by 2001 Paul Bunyan Road in Susanville for some candy and to visit with residents who will be dressed in costume. For more information, call 257-6673.

Susanville Assembly of God Church will host “A Night at the Candy Factory” from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is a one-pound bag of wrapped candy. There will be food, fun and games. The church is located at 473-465 Richmond Road. For more information, call 257-5000.

Janesville School's Halloween Carnival will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. in the school's gymnasium. There will be games, a haunted house, horse-drawn hayrides, hay maze, picture booth, cakewalk and food concessions. Admission is free. Carnival tickets may be purchased at the door. Lake Almanor Community Church will host a carnival-style event from 5 to 8 p.m. This family-friendly evening will feature free games and inexpensive dinner. The admission fee is one family-sized bag of candy per family and one canned good per person for the food pantry. No scary or inappropriate costumes will be allowed. The second annual Haunted Tour of downtown Doyle will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. The walk will begin and end at the Cozy Little Cottage restaurant and feature candy stops, a visit to the cemetery and scary creatures along the way. The event is free and all ages are welcome. oCome have a frightfully fun time at the Leavitt Lake Haunted House from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Leavitt Lake Fire Hall located at 709-860 Willow St. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years (must be accompanied by an adult). The Nightmare on 4th Street haunted house and graveyard (between Park and Ash streets) in Susanville will be open from dark until 10 p.m. The animated multi-room fright fest features electric- and pneumatic-controlled props. There are not live actors and nothing too gory. The entry fee is $1.

The third annual Haunted House at Eagle Lake will be open from dark until about 10 p.m. It is located on Hazel Way in Spalding and features lots of spiders and spooky decorations. Admission is free.
