Sierra Army Depot night route to start Oct. 1
Sept. 29, 2012 — A night shift for Sierra Army Depot (SIAD) employees is set to begin Monday, Oct. 1.
According to Lassen County Transportation Planner Dan Douglas, the route will start at 3 p.m. at the Riverside Drive bus stop and is set to arrive at Sierra Army Depot at 4 p.m. Stops will be made at the Park and Ride at the junction of Highways 36 and 395 and at the Park and Ride in Janesville off Highway 395 and the Janesville Grade. The bus will return to Susanville empty.
On the return route, a bus will go out to SIAD and pick up the employees at 2:30 a.m.
Stops will be made at the Park and Rides when the bus returns and is set to be back in Susanville by 3:30 a.m.
Transportation staff and the Lassen Transit Service Agency board of directors have been discussing and working on the south commuter night route concept since January when a resident requested the service and presented a list of 35 names of both federal and federal contractor employees interested in the commuter service.
Transportation staff has also been looking at a worker-driver concept where a second-shift employee would obtain a commercial drivers license of Class B with a passenger endorsement and verification of transit training to drive the route.
Douglas said if anyone is interested in driving or has questions, they can call Paratransit General Manager Gary Felt at the Lassen Rural Bus office at 252-7433.
