The Eagle Lake Land and Irrigation Company purchased the right to the Susan River irrigation system, which comprised Leavitt Lake and the reservoirs known as McCoy and Hog Flats. With these sources backed up by Eagle Lake’s 28,000 acres of surface area, the Honey Lake Valley was one of the most well irrigated sections of California.

With the great increase in its activities sparked by World War II, the Lassen County Chapter of the American Red Cross has taken more actions concerning the war and the community. One of the actions was to give Director G.A. Collyer greater responsibility in monitoring the county’s other branches.

Officials of the California-Pacific Utilities Company joined employees of the Lassen Division for a dinner at the St. Francis Hotel to honor Susanville resident Dick Feist. The Lassen Division manager retired after more than 32 years with the company.

A struggle for leadership got under way at the Pi-Ma-Pa Health Consortium at the Susanville Indian Health Clinic.

Many presented a petition alleging staffing problems, misuse of government funds and poor client services at a grievance hearing. The conflict reached a boiling point after the dismissal of the clinic’s community health representative.

District 3 Supervisor John Gaither presented a letter to the board accusing the Department of Fish and Game of driving 10,000 to 13,000 hunters out of the county with its deer quota system.

Five candidates will be on the Tuesday, Nov. 25 ballot to replace two Lassen County supervisors, should they be recalled.

Rancher Jack Hanson, engineer Everd McCain and contractor Gene Insley will run for Supervisor Lyle Lough’s District 5 supervisor seat.

Although Lough recently announced his resignation, he still is subject to recall.

Former Superior Court Judge Joseph Harvey and businesswoman Jimmie Bowman will square off for Supervisor Claud Neely’s District 1 position should he be ousted.

Lassen County residents responded to last week’s terrorist attack on America with an outpouring of patriotism, sympathy and support for the victims.

The Susanville Chapter of Rotary International lined city streets with 125 American flags on Thursday and Friday.

Mayor Mary Fahlen encouraged all Lassen residents to fly their flags as well. Old Glory could be seen waving in the wind even in the smallest of Lassen County communities.

During its meeting on Sept. 12, the Lassen Union High School (LHS) Board of Trustees approved forming a committee to study implementing a mandatory uniform.

The board also heard from parents and students who were in attendance.

One parent, who has a freshman at LHS, said implementing  a uniform was a “fabulous idea.”

Also in attendance were students and parents speaking out against uniforms.

Susanville police officers sustained minor injuries at the hand of intoxicated suspects, in unrelated   incidents. Officers involved were treated and released at Banner Lassen Medical Center and all suspects were arrested.

The case will be forwarded to Lassen County District Attorney, for prosecution.
