Wolcott presented the information to the Lassen County Board of Supervisors at its Tuesday, Aug. 28 meeting.

“People came in a little earlier than usual,” he said. “Wednesday was a great day for us. We had a great children’s day and a lot of participation.”

This year showed a 2.3 percent increase in overall weekly attendance from last year. Because of this attendance increase, the overall admission revenue also increased by 4.7 percent.

Season pass revenue also showed an increase this year.

There was a 38 percent decrease in the number of exhibits entered this year over last. Wolcott said this could be due to the fair removing the $10 cap on still exhibit entries.

Wolcott said, “We are working very hard on our committees trying to figure out ways to get into classrooms and get energized about exhibits.”

In summarizing the grandstand show, Wolcott said the pageant had a decrease in sales. There were eight contestants this year, which is the same as in 2011.

The USO show was replaced this year with Smackdown Bull Riding, which increased revenue for the grandstand shows. The bull riding showed 83 percent in revenue.

The Texaco Country Showdown increased sales by 10.2 percent.

This year’s Coors Light Country Headliner, Jo Dee Messina, was not quite as popular as last year’s act, Joe Nichols.

Saturday night’s auto racing and Sunday’s demolition derby both had a decrease in ticket sales.

“We are definitely going to go through the books and look at every item to see where we can improve,” he said. “We need to see where we’re at and how we can do a better job.”

Concessions were down every day except Wednesday this year. The Kiwanis Club concession stand dropped nearly 33 percent from last year.

“We were down a bit,” said Wolcott. “We’re going to have to look at that.”

The only areas that saw a rise in revenue were the commercial concessions and the ice sales.

Sponsorships remained roughly the same as last year with $30,825 in sponsorships and over 30 sponsors.

Wolcott also said having the sheriff and police departments present made a difference.

“We had almost no problems,” he said. “No ruckuses.”

Overall, Wolcott felt the fair was very pleasant and everyone helped a lot.
