Ecology and trout to be discussed at Pine Creek CRMP meeting
Pine Creek is the main tributary stream into Eagle Lake and was once the native spawning ground for the Eagle Lake trout until development cut off the upstream source.Pine Creek CRMP, a multi-agency cooperative resource management group, has been meeting for some time with the goal of restoring the spawning grounds.
Tim Keesey, an organizer for the meeting said, “The goal is for the public to meet with the technical side of Pine Creek CRMP to see what’s been going on and what’s currently on the radar.”
A representative from Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to give an overview of where the forest service currently stands on whether the Eagle Lake trout should be on the endangered species list. The representative will discuss whether it’s warranted and if so, should it be on the threatened or endangered list.
The group will also discuss the conservation plan that Lassen National Forest Service, California Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Honey Lake Resource Conservation and the U.C. cooperative Extension Farm Advisor, have been working on.
