Local bowler earns rare feat with perfect game

Dec. 21, 2011 — Managing to nail 12 strikes in a row is no easy task and Doug Sykes, an avid local bowler, earned an impressive score of 300 when he stepped onto the lanes for his men’s bowling league, Monday, Dec. 12.
“I finally got it right,” said Sykes on his feat.

Sykes has been bowling for more than 44 years and has been a regular at the local bowling alley in Susanville since relocating to the area in 1996. Sykes said he can’t recall any other bowler having a perfect game since relocating.
Larry Wosick, owner of Main Street Bowl, said no bowler has had a perfect game since he took over more than two years ago.

Sykes said on the last three strikes to complete the perfect game, all the participants during the Monday night league stopped and allowed Sykes to bowl with no distractions.
He said even in a small town, the courtesy and etiquette for the sport was there.

Sykes will be presented with a plaque from the bowling alley for his accomplishment.
He will also be awarded a 300 ring from the United States Bowling Commission (USBC).
