Lassen takes on Thunderbirds

Oct. 29, 2011 — The Lassen High varsity football team picked themselves up after their first Eastern Athletic League South loss and dominated the Las Plumas Thunderbirds, 41-2, Friday, Oct. 28, at the Harrison Stadium in Oroville, Calif.

The Grizzlies did not hesitate on either side as the defense forced the Thunderbirds to a fourth down in the first moments of the game.
Matt Damm for the Lassen offense earned a first down after a 13-yard run on the opening play for the Grizzlies’ offense and Cameron Medico followed with another first down as he showed off his powerful run to the crowd at the multi-million dollar stadium.

After several penalties on both sides, Medico pushed his way to the 6-yard line and put his team near the goal line.
Medico proceeded to get into the endzone after the offensive line created the perfect hole and Grizzlies were on the board first with seven.

Las Plumas almost answered with a touchdown of their own but Lassen’s Clinton Bradford stopped the scoring drive and knocked the ball loose and Lane Harlan recovered for the Grizzlies. Damm closed out the first quarter with a touchdown with 20 seconds left.

In the second quarter, Lassen’s Bryan Schaake got a sack which allowed for Medico to return to the endzone.
Las Plumas managed to get on the board after getting a sack in the endzone against Lassen and halftime ended with the Grizzlies up, 21-2.

When the game resumed, Lassen’s defense was just as deadly as they were in the first half and Las Plumas were unable to get by them.
In the second half, Austin Marcum made a catch in the endzone and quarterback Nate Freeman earned a touchdown for the Grizzlies with Schaake opening up the fourth quarter with another touchdown and the score ended in the Grizzlies’ favor.

The freshmen team won their contest against the Thunderbirds, 22-0, which earned them the EAL South championship title. The junior varsity team battled for a 12-6 win and Lassen earned its fourth sweep of the season against Las Plumas.

The Grizzlies return to Arnold Field for the last home game of the season in a non-league matchup against the Enterprise Hornets, Friday, Nov., 4.
The frosh start at 3:30 p.m., JV at 5:30 and the Grizzlies at 7:30.
