Phyllis Stuart, 89, passed away quietly at home Sept. 22, 2010. She was born in 1921 to Bertha and Wes Camomile, in Fallon, Nev.
Phyllis, her husband Chester and family relocated from Sacramento to the Susanville area in 1967. Chester passed away in 1995 and their oldest daughter, Elaine Umland passed in 1998. Her surviving children; Frederick, of Riverside, Calif.; Loressa Dunn, of Eugene, Ore. and Stephney Stuart, of Susanville take comfort in the knowledge that their mother finished the earthly leg of her journey having suffered no prolonged illnesses or debilitating infirmities.
Her three daughters blessed her with eight grandchildren. Elaine’s two, Douglas Umland and Regina Randall; Loressa’s two, Lauren Dunn and Mathew Dunn; Stephney’s four; Sean Garcia, Rick Garcia, Dustin Mathews and Logan Haesche; and three great-grandchildren, Mystaya and Cirrus Randall and Ryan Garcia.
Phyllis made a home for her family but worked as an instructional assistant at Shaffer Union School, Litchfield in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. Once she moved from Rice Canyon Road to Susanville she found her niche volunteering at the Susanville Public Library finally retiring in 2005.
Phyllis appreciated music, especially opera, classical and her son’s guitar playing. She enjoyed a good joke and spending time with her neighbors, friends and family. She looked forward to an uncomplicated meal and an occasional glass of good wine. And, she made an exceptionally tasty and completely edible holiday fruit cake. She will be missed.
A memorial ceremony and dessert pot-luck is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 in the Lassen Library Conference Room. Please join us in celebrating her long and eventful life.
