June 8, 2010 — It may seem like a simple thing and not the most glamorous way to recognize someone’s service to the community, but we agree with the Susanville City Council’s unanimous decision to rename Hospital Lane to Korver Lane.
Dr. Kenneth Korver is a name people quickly learn when they move to Susanville and if they read any health news in the Lassen County Times or the Westwood Pine Press. He is our Public Health Medical Director. Therefore, anything of concern facing the community such as E.coli breakouts, the H1N1 Flu scare, or other possible pandemics it is and has been Korver’s advice the emergency agencies, doctors, hospital, City Council and Board of Supervisors follow.
Korver has been practicing medicine in Lassen County at least 40 years and we can think of no one more fitting at this time to have a street named after him. His office sets at the corner of Hospital Lane and West Street and if the Lassen County Board of Supervisors gives its nod it will set at the corner of Korver Lane and West Street.
We think we can safely say this is one agenda item the supervisors will have no trouble voting unanimously on. Then Korver Lane will be added to the Susanville history book along with other streets named after people who made a difference in our city and county. People like Isaac Roop (Roop Street), Sheriff Cady Lane, Arnold Street, Peter Lassen (Lassen Street) to name a few.
In the meantime, congratulations, Dr. Korver, you deserve the honor and thank you for instilling in your family the desire to carry on the tradition of medical service.
