School bond passes
Incumbent John Murrer, who has been on the board for 12 years, was not reelected and received 1,263 votes.
Murrer said the voters spoke and there are no sour grapes with him leaving the board. He said he also wishes the other candidates well and knows they will do a good job.
Ritz, Bernard and Green will take their seats on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Mary “Katie” Green will also be a new face on the board. However, she ran unopposed and did not appear on the ballot. She ran for the seat formerly held by Llaniss Dickinson, who resigned from the board effective June 30.
The board accepted Dickinson’s resignation and passed a resolution to fill her seat in the Nov. 4 general election.
Green will serve the remainder of Dickinson’s term — until Dec. 3, 2010.
As a board member elect, Ritz said he plans on doing his best and will be looking for lots of parental input for the decision-making process for the district.
He also said, “I plan to work closely with the teachers and be at each campus at least one day each month.”
Ritz thanked the voters for voting for him and for Measure S.
Bernard also thanked everyone who voted for her and the teacher’s association for its support.
She said she was thrilled Measure S passed.
“It’s going to make our job much easier,” Bernard said.
Measure S, a bond providing funding to modernize Diamond View School, passed with a 65.56 percent vote.
Last spring, the Susanville Fire Department deemed the Diamond View School campus, located on Richmond Road, as being unsafe. Temporary classrooms were constructed to finish the school year, but this year the Diamond View campus was moved to the Meadow View School campus on Paiute Lane. Students in the fourth-0through sixth-grades are also housed at Meadow View while students in kindergarten through third-grades are at McKinley School, located on Fourth Street.
