JAMES “JIM” D. MOELLMAN Jim Moellman passed from this life, at his home on Sept. 2, 2008. He had been a longtime resident of Susanville.

Jim was born March 10, 1944 in Globe, Ariz. Within that same year, his family moved to Pinole, located in the Bay Area of Northern California. He spent his early years there and graduated from Richmond High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army and spent three years at various postings around the U.S., which included Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Fort Lee, Va. And some time at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. as a clerk.

Upon completion of his military service, Jim returned to the Bay Area where he joined the California National Guard in Richmond and achieved the rank of Sgt. First Class. During this time he was also an employee of the State of California, running the National Guard Armory in Richmond.

Jim decided it was time for a change and moved to Weaverville, Calif. located in Trinity County where he owned and operated a Refuse Disposal business for several years. He then became an employee for the state of California, working for Calrans and moved to Susanville in 1980. Jim continued with Caltrans for the next 26 years, until his retirement in Spring of 2006.

Jim served as a “Gray Beard” for E. Clampus Vitas, Neversweats Chapter Number 1863 in Susanville.

After retirement, Jim was not content with the retired lifestyle and went back to work for Susanville Express as well as working for Caltrans as a Permanent Intermittent Employee during the winter months.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Christine Zivney, of Pinole, and Catherine Moellman Connelly, of Richmond, as well as two grandsons and three granddaughters.
