Firefighters learn vertical ventilation techniques

Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 — Heaven forbid a fire should ever strike your home or business — but should such an unfortunate event occur, firefighters from the Susanville Fire Department will be trained and ready to battle the blaze.
Small groups of firefighters gathered last week at an abandoned residence that soon will be the site of a new Rite Aid store at the corner of Ash and Main streets.
Before all the buildings come down — three residential structures and a commercial building — the fire department will use the old buildings for firefighter training.

Friday, Aug. 7 — Crews are currently gaining containment on the northwest flank of the Dodge Fire burning 17 miles northeast of Ravendale.

Due to difficult terrain, crews and resources are having trouble accessing the southern flank of the fire. Dozers were able to do significant work along the west flank of the fire. Helicopters were able to be utilized during the operational period. Spot fires in the northeast and southwest portion of the fire hampered suppression efforts.

The fire is 30-percent contained with full containment expected Tuesday, Aug. 11.
