Sheriff’s office investigating possible drowning death
According to a press release issued by the LCSO, at approximately 9 p.m. Friday, May 18, deputies responded to Blue Lake, in the far northeastern corner of Lassen County, to a report of a possible drowning.
Both ground and emergency medical resources responded as well.
Upon arrival, LCSO personnel found Nicholas Wells had been pulled from the water after being discovered completely submerged in the lake.
Officers pronounced Wells dead at the scene.
According to the press release, Wells was at Blue Lake camping with relatives and ventured away from the campground with a fishing pole.
When he did not return to camp when nightfall approached, members of his camping party searched for him and found him submerged in the water.
Friends and relatives tried resuscitating Wells, along with medical personnel on their arrival, and were unsuccessful.
The death is being investigated as a drowning, but an official cause of death will be determined after a full autopsy.
