June 8, 2012 — All but 50 provisional ballots have been counted, and Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante has released the unofficial final results from the Tuesday, June 5 primary election.

A canvass of the election began yesterday, and Bustamante said that process will not be completed until next week, including a hand count of all the ballots in the tight District 1 Supervisorial race between incumbent Bob Pyle and challenge Jean Hodge.

Lassen County Superior Court Judge

Five candidates seek the Lassen County Superior Court Judge seat. Bob Burns garnered 2,322 votes (32.62 percent), Jon A. Nakanishi garnered 1,950 votes (27.39 percent), Tony Mallery garnered 1,540 votes (21.63 percent), Peter M. Talia garnered 710 votes (9.97 percent) and Stephen King garnered 589 votes (8.27 percent). Eight write-in votes were cast. The top two vote getters will face each other in the November general election.

Lassen County Board of Supervisors

In the district 1 race, incumbent Bob Pyle defeated challenger Jean Hodge by only 27 votes. Pyle garnered 836 votes (50.67 percent) and Hodge garnered 809 votes (49.03 percent). Five write-in votes were cast.

In the district 2 race, incumbent Jim Chapman defeated challenger Stephen Pezzullo by 121 votes. Chapman garnered 637 votes (54.77 percent) and Pezzullo garnered 516 votes (44.37 percent). Ten write-in votes were cast.

In the district 4 race, three candidates sought the seat abandoned by Brian Dahle as he ran for the state assembly. Aaron Albaugh defeated Kurt Bonham and Thomas H. Spanton. Albaugh garnered 785 votes (59.47 percent), Bonham garnered 373 votes (28.26 percent) and Spanton garnered 158 votes (11.97 percent). Four write-in votes were cast.

Susanville City Council

Seven candidates ran for three at-large seats on the Susanville City Council. Challengers Brian Wilson and Nick McBride and incumbent Lino Callegari won election. Wilson garnered 1,372 votes (25.46 percent), Calegari garnered 831 votes (15.29 percent), McBride garnered 824 votes, (15.29 percent), challenger David French garnered 727 votes (13.49 percent), challenger Michael Haldane garnered 719 votes (13.34 percent), incumbent Joseph Franco garnered 452 votes (8.39 percent) and incumbent Douglas Sayers garnered 447 votes (8.29 percent). Seventeen write-in votes were cast.

State senate

Four candidates ran for the First Senate District seat. In the Lassen County vote, incumbent Ted Gaines (R) garnered 4,118 votes (61.70 percent), J. Griffith-Flatter (D) garnered 1,487 votes (22.28 percent), Les Baugh (R) garnered 767 votes (11.49 percent), and “Bo” Ambrozewicz (NPP) garnered 287 votes (4.30 percent). Fifteen write-in votes were cast. Gaines and Griffith-Flatter square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, Gaines garnered 82,602 votes (48.30 percent) and Griffith-Flatter garnered 52,228 votes (30.60 percent).

State assembly

Five candidates ran for the First Assembly District seat. In the Lassen County vote, Brian Dahle (R) garnered 3,998 votes (57.87 percent) Rick Bosetti (R) garnered 1,231 votes (17.82 percent), Robert Meacher (D) garnered 1,096 votes (15.87 percent), Charley Hooper (LIB) garnered 322 votes (4.66 percent) and Dave Edwards (GRN) garnered 248 votes (3.59 percent). Thirteen write-in votes were cast. Dahle and Bosetti square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, Dahle garnered 31,644 votes (34.60 percent) and Bosetti garnered 25,805 votes (28.20 percent).

First Congressional District

Eight candidates ran for the First Congressional district seat. In the Lassen County vote, Doug La Malfa (R) garnered 2,333 votes (34.47 percent), Sam Aanestad (R) garnered 1,711 votes (25.28 percent), Jim Reed (D) garnered 1,122 votes (16.58 percent), Pete Stiglich (R) garnered 719 votes (10.62 percent), Nathan Arrowsmith (D) garnered 289 votes (4.27 percent), Gregory Cheadle (R) garnered 273 votes (4.03 percent), Gary Allen Oxley (NPP) garnered 193 votes (2.85 percent) and Michael Dacquisto (R) garnered 116 votes (1.71 percent). Twelve write-in votes were cast. La Malfa and Reed square off in the November election.

According to the California Secretary of State’s website, La Malfa garnered 49,784 votes (38.00 percent) and Reed garnered 32,726 votes (25.00 percent).
