When information is needed we tend to ‘Google it’
Tuesday, May 13, 2014 — What do you do if you have a problem to solve? Most, as I do, “Google it.” Consistently answers to questions; directions to destinations; tips on places to vacation; best methods to accomplish a task; or instructions for making something can be found on the Internet through a search engine.
While Google isn’t the only search engine — other familiar names include Bing, Yahoo, Ask and WebCrawler —the company name “Google” managed to become synonymous with the act of doing a computer search for information.
Thus it has gone the way of Kleenex, often used in reference to a facial tissue; or Xerox, a copy machine brand used to describe the act of making a photocopy.
