Community youth orchestra performs June 3

May 29, 2012 — Face the Music Studio and Plumas Arts proudly present the High Sierra Community Youth Orchestra’s 10th annual Spring Concert to be held at Quincy Elementary School Sunday, June 3. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:30 sharp.
This year’s concert will feature the Chatterbox Children’s Orchestra and the High Sierra Community Youth Orchestra playing a variety of music from Pachelbel, Grieg, Offenbach, Camille Saint-Saens, Gershwin, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Mancini, Beethoven, Scott Joplin and some modern composers.
The featured young musicians will includeEmily Walmer, age 12, playing Bach’s Tocatta in D Minor and “On My Own” from “Les Miserables” on the piano.
Che Rubalcava-Cunan, age 14, will perform Tárrega’s “Recuerdos de la Alhambra” on classical guitar. His brothers Miles, age 12, on trumpet and Luis, will then join him age 18, on piano, as a jazz trio playing Jobim’s “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Fly Me to the Moon.”
Two other featured musicians are Sylvia Wood, age 11, playing two original compositions on the piano and Natalie Kepple, age 16, playing the famous Bach Prelude in G and the “Swan” from “Carnival of the Animals.” Diane Seibel will accompany her on piano.
Tallon Sandoval, age 15, and Johny McDonald, 2012California state twin fiddling champions, will perform a twin fiddling debutoff of their newly released CD “Collide” with Dave Johns on the guitar.
This CD was recorded in April at Syntharts Studio in Eugene, Ore., and is literally “hot off the press.”

With a lineup like this and more than 50 local musicians, this concert promises to please a wide variety of music lovers. “Come lend us an ear on Sunday, June 3,” said McDonald.
Admission to the concert is on a voluntary donation basis. No one will be turned away. A $5 per person or $15 per family donation is suggested. The funds help offset expenses for the orchestra, like sheet music.
