May 8, 2012 — At 1:57 a.m. May 4 the Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from the Susan River Fire Department and Calfire, responded to a reported residential structure fire at 1306 Third St.

The first arriving engine was E621 from the Susanville Fire Department.

Upon arriving at the scene, E621 reported heavy smoke showing from the rear of the structure and smoke coming from the eaves of the structure.

Within a minute of E621 arriving at the scene the structure flashed over and became fully involved with fire pushing out the windows of the structure.

Firefighters from E621 made an aggressive exterior attack on the structure.

As other engines arrived on scene, fire crews made entry into the structure doing an interior attack and bringing the fire under control at 2:56 a.m. The fire spread from the living room to the rear of the structure.

Damage to the structure consisted of heavy charring from the floor to the ceiling throughout the structure.

The firefighters were able to save some of the occupants’ personal items.

There were 10 fire apparatus and 28 firefighters on scene to battle the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies: Susanville River Fire Protection District, Calfire, Lassen County OES, Susanville Police Department, LMUD and Red Cross.

The fire was found to be caused by combustible materials stored too close to the heat source.

A lot of fires around here since 2009.
Anybody know what is going on with the Black Bear Diner, construction has stopped and the main office is mum?
