Bureau of Land Management plans burn projects in Lassen, Modoc counties
Oct. 30, 2013 — Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will conduct several prescribed burning projects in Lassen and Modoc counties during fall and early winter.
Alturas Field Office crews plan to begin a juniper thinning and burning project in the Hayden Hill area, about 50 miles north of Susanville, today, Wednesday, Oct. 30. The burns, designed to improve habitat for sage grouse, will be conducted within a 500-acre project area.
In the coming weeks, the Alturas Field Office plans to burn piles of brush and limbs near the eastern Shasta County community of Cassel. The piles were created during construction of a shaded fuel break west of the community. The slash piles are within a 33-acre project area.
