Marylou “Granna” Johnson
Marylou “Granna” Johnson of Susanville, Calif. passed away Dec. 26, 2011 after a short illness, with her family at her side.
She was born March 7, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. Granna moved to Quincy, Calif., in 1962. In 1964, as a single parent, she went to work at Plumas District Hospital, in the kitchen, then as a CNA. She studied and challenged the LVN test. Marylou also challenged the X-ray board; she then became an X-ray technician. She worked 29 years for Plumas District Hospital.
Marylou is preceded in death by her sons, Bertal Thomas Johnson II and Eugene Edward Johnson; grandson Jason Robert Johnson; and granddaughter Jordyn Montana Johnson.
She was a fantastic seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and the Food Network. She enjoyed watching the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren play. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca, of Susanville; grandson Justin Johnson, of Zanesville, Ohio, Jared and Marjorie, of Fullerton, Calif., Jonathan, of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughter Jessica and Jake Fogal, of Susanville.
Service was held at 11 a.m. Dec. 29, 2011 with graveside at East Lawn Cemetery in Quincy, Calif. A Memorial Service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 LDS Church in Susanville.
Virginia Summers Morales

Born in Bishop, Calif., on Nov. 15, 1923, Virginia Summers Morales passed away Dec. 19, 2011, in Susanville, Calif.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Ginny L. Morales of Susanville, and a brother, Wilford (Buddy) Summers, of Bishop.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Shine Morales on June 4, 1982; sisters, Barbara Hess Willis, of Bishop, and Justine “Pid” Harrington, of Bishop; and brother Stan Summers, of Bishop.
Virginia was the daughter of Tom and Marjorie Summers, of Bishop. Her daughter and family would like to thank all of her family and friends who helped make her life complete.
A visitation was held Thursday, Dec.22, 2011 at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary in Susanville. A graveside memorial service was held Dec. 23, 2011, at the Diamond Crest Cemetery. A Celebration of Life followed the service.
L.B. “Bert” Nereim
L.B. “Bert” Nereim was born March 30, 1926 in Day County, South Dakota. He attended Homer Township Rural Grade School, graduated from Langford High School, Langford, S.D. class of 1944. He attended Washington State University, in Pullman, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife Claris; one son, Douglas; two brothers, one sister and both parents.
He was married Sept. 12, 1955 to Claris J. Gifford in Virginia City, Nev., and he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
A member of the Lutheran Church, former member of the Auburn Washington Elks Club, former member of the Coast to Coast Million Dollar Club and a charter member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity of Washington State University.
He owned and operated two Coast to Coast Hardware Stores in Auburn, Wash. before moving to Susanville, Calif. in 1978 where he owned and operated another Coast to Coast Hardware Store until 1990.
He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline McMillin, of Medford, Ore. and Patricia Nereim Larsen, of Susanville; one granddaughter, Myriah McMillin; and two grandsons, Ian and Kyle Potter.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at Walton’s Colonial Chapel. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at Walton’s, and burial will follow at Janesville Cemetery.

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and hero passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Dec. 23, 2011.
She was born March 8, 1934 in Reno, Nev. A Sparks native, she graduated from Sparks High and Reno Business College with a degree in business. She worked for Wells Fargo in Reno and Care West in Susanville.
After raising her seven children, she went to work for the California Correctional Center where she retired after 14 years.
She was an avid bowler and thoroughly enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in all sports. She enjoyed Tai-Chi and donated her time to the thrift shop. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Women’s Auxiliary. She never knew a stranger, and greeted everyone with a smile, a smile you could see in her eyes. Her family was most important to her.
She is survived by her brother Victor (Vicky) Macias, of Reno, Nev.; children Rita Phillips, Karen Simon, of Sparks, Carol Bauveit, Gary Zinn, Dan Zinn, of Susanville and Robert (Kristina) Zinn, of Paradise, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her “baby” Scooter (dog).
She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley James Zinn; mother Antonia Macias, fathers Ralph Rodriquez, Calisto Macias; and sister, Esperanza Rodriguez.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Susanville, with reception following at Monsignor Moran Hall. Internment will be at a later date at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, of Reno, Nev.

Carla Hensley, 69, of Quincy, died Dec. 24, 2011 in Chico, Calif.
Grover Douglas White, Sr.
Grover Douglas White, Sr., 88, died Dec. 27, 2011 in Herlong, Calif. He was born Aug. 4, 1923 in Winnsboro, La.
Grover is survived by his sons, Grover, Jr. and Gloria White, of Herlong, and James and Benita White, of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter, Georgetta Thomas, of Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Herlong with burial to follow at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Susanville.
