Dale Howard Anderson
Dale Howard Anderson was born May 15, 1924 in Hamburg, Iowa and passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nev. Sept. 7, 2011 with his loving son Steven, by his side. Dale was 87 years old.
Dale and his family resided in Hamburg until he completed elementary school. In August of 1938, Dale and his family moved to Fairfield, Calif. where Dale attended high school. After high school, Dale was employed at the Benicia Army Depot. At the beginning of World War II, Dale enlisted in the Army. Dale traveled the world in the military, including places such as Germany, France and Italy, including the Battle of the Bulge. While crossing the English Channel, his ship was torpedoed. Luckily, a ship was close by and was able to rescue all on board before the ship sank (which worked out great for Dale because he couldn’t swim). At the end of World War II, Dale began working for Solano County until the beginning of the Korean War. At that time, Dale re-enlisted in the Army. Upon Dale’s return from duty, he met Dorothy Adams, and they were married in 1955.
In 1961, Dale began his career with California Department of Corrections at Vacaville Medical Facility. In 1963, Dale transferred to California Correctional Center in Susanville, Calif. In 1964 Dale was then able to move his family to Susanville. After 28 years with California Department of Corrections, Dale retired. During retirement, Dale became an avid rock hound and an amateur radio enthusiast. Dale then began his favorite pastime, a music collector and playing his guitar and keyboard. Dale was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Dale was always talking about his son and granddaughter and it was always with a smile. Dale will be missed and all of the wonderful memories will live on in our hearts forever.
Dale is preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy, in 1999.
Dale is survived by his son Steve Anderson and wife Karen, of Susanville, Calif.; daughter Kathryn Jackson; granddaughter Michelle Langley and husband Travis, of Susanville; granddaughter Stephanie Jackson; grandson David Jackson; and step-grandsons Scott and Craig Thomas.
Dale will be laid to rest at Diamond Crest Cemetery next to his beloved wife Dorothy, in Susanville.
“We who must await our turn to join Dale will have so many nice memories of him and the help and care he gave so freely.”
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 17.
