Francis Kenneth Law

Francis Kenneth Law was born Aug. 9, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away unexpectedly Dec. 12, 2011 at the age of 56.

He attended school in Lassen County and graduated from Lassen Union High School. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kenny obtained his CDL license in 1978 and thoroughly enjoyed driving trucks. He worked the majority of his life in the family business alongside his father and mother.

He was a rock hound at heart and enjoyed finding, collecting and just plain looking at all the rocks he had discovered. In his younger days he loved to show his motorcycle off as he rode it everywhere he went until he wore it out completely. Kenny’s fun-loving attitude always kept things interesting as he played jokes on everyone and brightened their day with a warm smile.

Disneyland was his favorite vacation spot and he enjoyed watching “Building Walt’s Dream — Disneyland Construction.” Watching Disney movies with Uncle Kenny was a favorite activity for his nieces and nephews. He was a video game buff and was intrigued by new games and enjoyed the challenge.

He is survived by his parents, Francis and Ardalia Law, of Susanville, Calif.; sisters, Kathleen Hancock (Troy), of Lovelock, Nev. and Yvonne Gill (J.D.), of Elko, Nev.; brothers, Michael Law (Sharlene), of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Martin Law (Maureen), of North Pole, Alaska; along with 63 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Dale Law.

He was a joy to his parents’ life and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all those who brought flowers, food and words of comfort and helped make his life enjoyable.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Diamond Crest Cemetery.

Larry Dale Miller

Larry Dale Miller, 73, of Susanville, passed away Nov. 30, 2011, at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nev.

Son of Robert Allen Miller and Gertrude Ida Davenport, Larry was born March 21, 1938 in Yakima, Wash., where he also lived and attended school. He had seven siblings, Bob, Bill, Jack, Norma (all deceased) and True, Joyce and Audry.

Larry was a loving father and husband. In 1972 he married Tina. For the past 36 years they made their home in Standish, Calif. Together they raised six children. Larry Jr. (deceased), Dusty, Cecelia, Henry, Ernie, Randy and he was surrogate father to his niece Mary.

Larry was around horses all his life, raced harness horses for 25 years, and trained and raced quarter horses for several years. He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglas and with his love of the highway was a truck driver for a great part of his working career. His passion was riding his motorcycle, and his horse “Buddy.” He felt a sense of freedom when doing both.

In passing, Larry leaves his wife of 39 years, Tina Miller, his six children, 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank all of his friends who helped make his life complete by making him a part of their families. He will be missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Dec. 26, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Monticola Club, 140 Lassen St. in Susanville, Calif.

Agostino (Augie) Quarisa

Augie Quarisa’s spirit has left this earth to reunite with his son, “Lil Augie.” His family was by his side when he left on Dec. 12, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Redding, Calif. Augie had fought a four-year battle against cancer. He loved his family, friends and dogs. He was very passionate about his many hobbies even when his body was too tired to do them any longer.

Augie is survived by his wife, Glenda, of Litchfield; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mike Underhill, of Willits, Calif.; his grandchildren that he loved so much, Lusia Maria Patterson, her husband Will Shumway, Emily Patterson, Laurena Galletti and Ryan Quarisa; and his beloved dogs Frisky and Rocky. He is also survived by a sister, Amelia Pavan; two brothers, Primo Quarisa and Danny Quarisa; his extended family, Betty and Bob Jackson and Fran and Gilbert Hruschka. He had several nieces and nephews that were very close to their Uncle Augie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Lucy Quarisa, his brother, Albino Quarisa, and his son, “Little” Augie Quarisa.

Augie was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Susanville and a past member of the Susanville Elks Lodge, and the American Motorcycle Association.

Augie was an avid motorcycle rider and one of the few in Susanville when he started riding in the early ‘60s. It was soon discovered by many that he had a talent for repairing motorcycles and very soon his garage and driveway were lined with repair jobs. After doing this part time for three years, he opened his business, Augie’s Cycle Repair on South Gay Street in Susanville. As one friend said, he was a motorcycle “icon” in this area for about 20 years.

After his career in the motorcycle business, he became the director of maintenance at Lassen Community Hospital until his retirement in 2000. During this time and after, he still did repair jobs for many former customers, back in his garage again. He was forced to give this up when he became ill.

Services were held on Dec. 17, one day after his and Glenda’s 55th anniversary. Donations in Augie’s memory can be made to the Lassen High Alumni at P.O. Box 471, Susanville, CA, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

John Graham Weir

John Graham Weir was born on Oct. 11, 1932 in Susanville, Calif. and passed away Dec. 8, 2011 in Placerville, Calif. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Theodore Weir; his daughter, Melissa Hill (Rocky); son Jack Weir (Elizabeth); grandchildren Samantha, Jordan, Michelle, Abigail and Lila; his twin brother Harry (Jean); sister Jackie; sister-in-law Mary Tashiro (Brian); and nieces and nephews Jon, Bob, Gena, Kevin and Heidi.

John worked for the U.S. Forest Service from 1957 to 1987 as an engineer technician. He spent his retirement working at Boeger Winery.

John chose a career with the Forest Service to provide a stable life for his family, but he was a farmer at heart. We would like to thank the Boeger family and Winery crew for letting him spend his retirement years in the vineyard, helping grow the grapes which produced your great wines. He said of his time at Boeger that, “The first day it feels like work, I’ll quit.” Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Tim Grennan of Kaiser. Your care and compassion for John on his 10-year journey with cancer went above and beyond the call of duty and we are forever grateful to you.

There was a celebration of his life on Saturday, Dec. 17 at an open house at the Weir residence.

Burial will be in Janesville at a later date.

Donations may be made to Kaiser Hospice or the charity of your choice.
