LCC downs Yuba
Lassen College's women's basketball team became the state's only undefeated team after a 77-62 win over Yuba College as host of the TCBY Classic Friday, Dec. 1.
The Lady Cougars improved to 7-0, backing up their No. 12 state ranking and No. 5 Northern California rating.
Cerritos and Merced, two of the state's other unbeaten teams, lost last week.
Lassen battled to a 37-31 halftime lead after missing easy shots and poor rebounding. Lassen applied the defensive pressure and turned on the transition game to pull away in the second half.
Alyson Thurman led the way for Lassen with 26 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Jasmere Kirby had 14 points, nine steals and seven assists. Jamie Wagner hit for 12 to go with six steals and seven assists, while McKenzie Harrigan added 12 points, four steals and two blocks.
"We're gaining confidence. We had a real balanced attack. If someone has an off night, the rest of the team steps up," Lassen head coach Mark Nareau said.
The Lady Cougars head to the East Bay Classic Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 7-9. The women open with Porterville.
