Tuesday, June 18 —  County fire agencies  have been dispatched to a reported vegetation fire across the street from the Honey Lake Motocross Park in Milford.

June 18, 2013 — They’ve been misplaced by research, overlooked in ethnographies, but the Kammutakuta band of Piautes are finally being recognized for their place in history. Friday, June 7, members of the band held an official ceremony on the Smoke Creek Desert. The Ram Horn Springs campground will now share the name, Numu Summuth, which means “people’s gathering.” Although the ceremony was held at the campground, Mace DeLorme said the original sites of the two villages were actually four miles away.

June 18, 2013  — Community members had the opportunity to better understand the operations of the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office during an open house on Wednesday, May 29.

People toured the sheriff’s office, the county jail, dispatch and learned more about boat patrol and coroner duties. Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon provided an update on operations and answered questions presented by the public.

He said, “The way I look at it, the sheriff’s office belongs to everyone who lives in the county. I’m just the one who got chosen to manage it right now, and I figure it’s right to open it up and let the people see what we’re doing and give us a chance to receive input from the community, and let them know about some of the projects we’re working on.”

June 18, 2013  — Will Lassen County District 5 Supervisor Jack Hanson serve out the remainder of his term (which ends Jan.5, 2015) or will a new candidate be elected in the recall election?

The fate of the district 5 supervisor’s seat is now in the hands of the district’s voters.

Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante said she has tentatively scheduled the recall election for Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Bustamante said approximately 2,500 voters will answer two questions — first should Hanson be recalled (yes or no), and second (if the majority of voters seek his recall), which candidate shall serve the remainder of his term. If a majority of voters seek Hanson’s recall, the candidate who collects the most votes will be elected, regardless of how many seek the office.
