Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 — If you’re looking for a little taste of some good old Americana and a glimpse of the way things used to be in rural towns across this great land, a visit to Doyle, a quiet town just a stone’s throw off Highway 395, is like taking a long step back in time.
Yep, the old, historic part of Doyle remains from the days when the then two-lane highway between Susanville and Reno, Nevada ran right through the middle of town. That nostalgic part of Doyle, including the century old Winje Hotel, explodes back into life each August with the Doyle Days Celebration. Proceeds from the event benefit community programs, and residents share their small-town pride with all who attend the annual event.
Resident Lyn Haynes said the nonprofit Fort Sage Long Valley Community Program has worked hard the last few years to return the event to its previous glory, and the group believes it’s winning the battle.
