Wednesday, July 2, 2014 — Five small fires resulted from July 1 lightning across the eastern portion of the Plumas National Forest. Four of the fires, between Dixie Valley and Frenchman Lake, were one-tenth to 1/2-acre in size with one (Dixie) at five acres. All were suppressed quickly. A sixth fire, starting in a structure and spreading to vegetation, was also quickly extinguished.
Backup firefighting resources have been strategically placed around the forest in anticipation of the hot, dry weather and holiday weekend crowds.
Recall fire restrictions are in effect across the forest; for more information, see fs.usda.gov/plumas.
