Sheriff’s office investigates veterinarian's death as a possible homicide
Tuesday, June 24 — According to a press release from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, the death of a local veterinarian is being investigated as a possible homicide.
At approximately 8:30 am. Monday, June 23, deputies from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported death in the Janesville area.
The press release said deputies found a dead man, identified as Richard Meinert, 55, of Janesville, within the business of Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic.
According to the press release, based on initial assessment, the Bureau of Forensic Services from the California Department of Justice was called in to assist in the processing of the scene.
The press release said although the sheriff’s office is in the preliminary stages of the investigation, evidence exists that leads deputies to believe Meinert’s death may have been the result of a criminal act and possibly in concert with a break-in at the business.
The sheriff’s office is asking for the assistance of the community and encourages anyone with information that could assist with the investigation to call 257-6121.
