Supes recognize Vander Ploeg’s service
Tuesday, May 27, 2014 — Former county counsel Rhetta Vander Ploeg served her last day on May 16, but before her departure, the board of supervisors took the opportunity to recognize her years of service with the county.
On behalf of the supervisors, board chairman Larry Wosick presented Vander Ploeg with a proclamation during a Tuesday, May 13 meeting. She is now working for attorney Jim Curtis in Sierra County.
Newly hired county counsel and current district attorney Bob Burns hired Vander Ploeg in 2008 as a deputy district attorney where she served until 2012 when she assumed the job as county counsel.
Burns said Vander Ploeg was his single best hiring decision and described her as having a great personality and someone who came to be a friend.
Eileen Spencer, executive secretary of Kan We Help, read a proclamation from the public criticizing Vander Ploeg’s service and ended with the “we the people say goodbye and good riddance.” In response, county counsel staff and new county counsel Bob Burns got up and left the room.
