National park hosts vehicle-free weekend May 16 through 18

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 — You are invited to hike, bike, walk or run along the Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway May 16 through May 18 before the road opens to through traffic for the season.
"I am incredibly excited to announce that visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy our spectacular scenery along 30 miles of road without vehicles," said Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz. “Designating a weekend as vehicle free allows our visitors to experience the park in a new and fun way.”
The highway will open at 9 a.m. Friday, May 16 for non-motorized travel (except administrative and emergency vehicles) from the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center and the Loomis Museum Plaza.
