City Council adopts water conservation rules

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 — The Susanville City Council held a special meeting Wednesday, May 27 and unanimously passed an ordinance designed to meet the water conservation goals set by the state as it enters its fourth year of drought.
First the council unanimously rescinded the resolution that implemented the City’s State 2 Water Shortage Contingency Plan it implemented in August 2014, because that resolution does not have the enforcement provisions of a city ordinance.
Public Works Director Dan Newton told the council the state has ordered the city to reduce its water consumption by 36 percent between June 1 and Feb. 28, 2016 compared to its usage in 2013.
