Full-page ads for the new coming city of Northern California, Amedee, located in the heart of the Honey Lake Valley, boasted a fine hotel with 60 rooms and plans for a bath house utilizing the famous boiling springs making Amedee the “Health Resort of the West.”

 

Remember When for Feb. 5, 2013

90 years ago

Representatives of a sugar beet factory in Fallon, Nev. visited a site outside Standish to talk to farmers concerning the viability of growing beets in the Honey Lake Valley.

They planned to plant 2,000 acres and sell the beets for $7 a ton.

 

Remember When for Jan. 29, 2013

90 years ago

     Louis Burgurd, of Spalding, finally recovered from a series of injuries that put him out of commission for nearly a year. Burgurd fell off his barn roof and broke his left arm and several ribs. He was then diagnosed with pneumonia and the doctor ordered him not to leave his house until he was well. Ignoring the doctor’s advice, Burgurd attempt to purchase food at a nearby market and was kicked by his mule, which snapped his leg in four places.
