Man arrested for alleged firearm negligence
A Susanville man was arrested without incident after police officer responded to a report of shots fired.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, officers responded to an emergency call on North Roop Street and a woman claimed her husband, Gary Zack, 53, had allegedly fired a round from a rifle inside their home and then fled on foot with the rifle and a shotgun, according to a police department press release.
Responding officers combed the area looking for Zack and a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer located him walking around Paul Bunyan Road and Skyline Drive.
According to the release, Zack was arrested and he was without the firearms in question. He was later “booked into the Lassen Count Jail on charges of discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, public intoxication and previously falsely reporting that a firearm had been stolen from his residence.”
Zack was held on a $22,500 bail.
The police department collaborated with the CHP and the Lassen County sheriff’s Office during the investigation and the case was referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office for review.
