Watch out for false solicitors
Sept. 10, 2013 — Recently there have been several solicitors in our community, going door to door, attempting to sell their products. The city of Susanville’s municipal code regulates solicitors in the city limits. All solicitors are required to obtain a city business license, submit to a criminal history check, and receive the approval of the chief of police, prior to being issued a solicitor’s permit. All solicitors are required to carry their permit with them while conducting their business. If you are approached by a solicitor, ask them for their permit authorizing them to conduct business in the city limits. If they do not have a permit on their person or refuse to supply you that information, contact our 24-hour dispatch number at 257-2171 and request to speak with an officer about the incident.
Today, I was told a certain home alarm company has been using my name as a customer reference. The use of my name as a reference has not been authorized by me, nor have I entered into any business relationships with this company.
Use caution before entering into a business relationship with any individual who comes to your door using high-pressure sales tactics.
