Youth football officials needed for fall Pop Warner and SYFL games

Aug. 26 — The Sierra Youth Football League is seeking officials for the upcoming Pop Warner and Sierra Youth Football League season games.
No experience is required, as the league will train anyone who is willing. However, the league does prefer officials to have a background in football.
Pop Warner has teams in Reno, Sparks, Fallon, Carson, Douglas, Portola, South Lake Tahoe and North Lake Tahoe. Games are played Friday and Saturday evenings and sometimes during the day on Saturday. Most games are doubleheaders with the first game beginning at 6 p.m. and the second game beginning at 8 p.m.
Pop Warner has six levels of play and about 55 total teams. The levels are Tiny Mites, Mighty Mites, Junior Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Junior Midgets and Unlimited.
The Sierra Youth Football League has games Saturdays in Susanville, Quincy and Bishop. The games can begin as early as 8 a.m. and go as late as 8 p.m. There are seven levels of play — Bandits, Mavericks, Renegades, Freshmen, JV, Varsity and Collegiate — and more than 100 teams.
There will be an on-field officials clinic near the end of August. and two required classroom meetings during the season.
