Susanville Air Fair lands Saturday
Aug. 13, 2012 — The annual Susanville Air Fair, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 17, is sure to wow spectators with planes, helicopter rides and classic cars.
Kicking off with a pancake breakfast at 7 to 10 a.m. at the Susanville Municipal Airport, the family-friendly air fair will have something for everyone.
“There will be a bunch of great airplanes to look at,” Steve Datema, Susanville airport manager.
Attendees will be able to partake in helicopter rides, watch flybys and view classic cars and a remote control airplane demonstration. Also, returning this year, Doc Blevins will be showing his L29 Czechoslovakian fighter jet.
“It’s a great family event,” said Datema. “The kids love it.”
Additionally, Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation, from Dayton Nev., will be providing free airplane rides for veterans. The organization is a non-profit created to honor seniors and United States military veterans, living in care homes, “that have always had a burning desire to soar like an eagle,” according to the foundation’s website.
At the Wednesday, Aug. 7, meeting, City Council approved paying $450 to cover half the insurance cost of the event. In exchange, the city will receive 20 percent of the proceeds. The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 794 sponsors the event.
