July 11 — Susanville Little League recently began a new summer program called Extra Innings and it has been a big hit with baseball-loving children in Lassen County. The program offers Sandlot-style baseball, instructional clinics and several special events such as home run derbies, night games and wood bat only games.
The purpose of Extra Innings is to allow children to have fun while developing their playing skills. The program is more relaxed than the regular Little League season, allowing children and coaches more time to work on fundamentals and focus on having fun, rather than competing.
The program is open to players ages 7 to 14 and is divided into two age groups. Games usually take place Wednesday and Saturday evenings, with a few exceptions. Children sign up for the program on a weekly basis and can attend new player practice before each game takes place. Children can also participate in several practice and skill building sessions.
