Vegetation fire burns 255 acres

UPDATE: 9:27 a.m. July 8, 2013 — A vegetation fire that burned just south of the Milford Grade scorched 255 acres Sunday, July 7.
According to Eric Ewing, Office of Emergency Services chief, the fire started right off Highway 395. No structures were threatened, but the fire burned in brush and habitat and scorched some fence posts.
George Snook, a nearby resident, said he was leaving his home when he saw the fire, which he said appeared to have started off the side of the road, just south of his street.
Snook reported the fire to a member of the Milford Fire Department "who took it from there."
Fire crews were dispatched around 1 p.m. and the fire was contained at 4 p.m.
Agencies that responded included Calfire, the Plumas National Forest Service, the Milford, Janesville and Herlong volunteer fire districts, Sierra Army Depot, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol.
