Correctional center celebrates 50th anniversary
May 14, 2013 — The public is invited to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of the California Correctional Center held at noon Wednesday, May 15.
Highlights of the event include a welcoming statement by Matt Mullin, the prison’s chief deputy warden; the presentation of colors by an honor guard from CCC and High Desert State Prison; Charlene Peterson, Miss Lassen County, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance; and vocalist Liudmila Mullin will sing the national anthem.
Michael D. Stainer, Deputy Director, Division of Adult Institutions; Jim Chapman, Lassen County District 2 supervisor; Martin Hoshino, undersecretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; and Warden Robert Gower will address the public.
The prison was built in 1963 as a minimum-security facility and was expanded in 1987 to include facilities to accommodate medium-security inmates. The prison’s primary mission is to receive, house, and train minimum-custody inmates for placement into one of the institution’s 18 Northern California conservation camps.
Working collaboratively with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, these camps are strategically located throughout the north state to provide fire suppression hand crews, as well as an organized labor force for public conservation projects and other emergency response needs of the state.
