March 26, 2013 — A high-risk felony traffic stop by the Lassen County Narcotics Task Force resulted in the arrest of two Susanville men.
According to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4 p.m. March 3, the Lassen County Narcotics Task Force initiated a high-risk traffic stop on Main Street Janesville, near Christie Street. The stop was made pursuant to a search warrant issued out of the Lassen County Superior Court. Susanville residents John Lain, 35, the driver of the vehicle, and Ronald Johnson, 48, his passenger, were detained at the scene. Deputies from the sheriff’s office, a Susanville Police Department detective and a warden from the Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to assist.
During a search of the vehicle, a large amount of methamphetamine, and a Mac-11 9mm machine pistol with a 30-round magazine were found. Lain and Johnson were subsequently arrested and transported to the Lassen County Jail on charges of alleged possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a false compartment with the intent to store a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance while armed with an operable firearm. Bail was set at $40,000 for Lain and $30,000 for Johnson.
After Lain and Johnson were arrested, officers from the Lassen County Narcotics Task Force, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Susanville Police Department, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and Department of Fish and Wildlife executed a search warrant at Lain’s residence on Russell Avenue in Susanville. During a search of the residence, officers found a small amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, drug packaging material and a counter-surveillance video system capable of night vision and motion detection.
The methamphetamine seized was later weighed at about 116.2 grams (4.09 ounces or .256 pounds). The Task Force estimates the street value of the methamphetamine to be approximately $9,500. This operation is a part of a long-term and ongoing investigation.
